A new chapter has begun in the culinary world of Dempsey. Tucked away behind the beloved Claudine restaurant, La Terrace is the latest gem to bloom under the creative direction of renowned chef Julien Royer. This brand-new al fresco dining extension offers a refreshing countryside charm, a laid-back yet elegant vibe — and a menu that speaks of sunshine, seasonality, and sophistication.
We had the pleasure of experiencing this oasis ourselves, and here’s why it instantly earned a spot on our must-visit list.
With its open-air layout, warm terracotta hues, and Mediterranean spirit, La Terrace feels like a quick trip to the South of France — without leaving Singapore. Think sun-drenched tiles, lush greenery, and a relaxed, chic ambiance that makes every meal feel like a holiday. Whether you’re planning a lunch with friends or an apéro at sunset, this is the kind of place you’ll want to linger in.
The menu is entirely distinct from Claudine’s, curated to match the alfresco setting — lighter, vibrant, and perfect for sharing. Our tasting began with a crisp and refreshing gin cocktail, setting the tone beautifully.
Then came a parade of refined small plates:
Sardine toast with aioli, shallot, and pickles — punchy, fresh, and full of character.
Hokkaido scallop crudo — delicately sliced and dressed to perfection.
Radishes served on ice — a minimalist delight, surprisingly addictive.
Zucchini flower tempura — light, crisp, and a beautiful ode to summer produce.
Tapioca fritters — golden, crunchy, and satisfying.
And our personal favourite? The Hokkaido scallop crudo — delicately sliced, perfectly seasoned, and melt-in-your-mouth tender. A true highlight that captured the essence of La Terrace in one bite: refined, fresh, and beautifully executed.
The star of the show? The half roasted chicken — La Terrace’s signature main. Juicy, tender, and seasoned with finesse, it’s comfort food elevated to new heights.
We ended on a sweet note with freshly baked madeleines and a bright lemon tart — simple, classic, and utterly delightful.
La Terrace is more than just a pretty spot — it’s a true destination for food lovers seeking a moment of escape. Perfect for long lunches, early evening drinks, or relaxed dinners, it blends French savoir-faire with the casual elegance of an outdoor terrace.
So Chic tip: go just before sunset to enjoy the golden hour light and a chilled cocktail. Trust us, it’s magic.
